Clove has no accounts and no server-side database. Nothing you scan is tied to you, and nothing is stored anywhere except this device.
What gets sent, and when
Barcode scans and name searches. The barcode digits — or the words you type — are sent to Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts, two public open-data projects, to fetch the product record. Nothing else goes with them: no photo, no device id, no history.
Label photos. When you use the label reader, that single photo is sent to an AI vision model purely to transcribe the printed ingredient list and nutrition table. Clove does not store the photo: it is used for that one request and not saved by Clove. The AI provider that reads it has its own data-handling terms, and Clove cannot promise how long that provider keeps it. Because a photo can capture more than the label, point the camera at the ingredient panel only.
Scores, history and favourites. Scoring runs against Clove's own ingredient rulebooks, and your scans and favourites are written to this browser's local storage. They never leave the device and are not synced.
