Beta notes

Clove is in early testing. This page lists the things a tester should know up front — nothing here changes how products are scored.

Sources we haven't verified yet

Most ingredient notes in Clove link to a published scientific opinion or guideline that has been checked. Three notices currently cite documents Clove could not open and read automatically, so their wording still needs a human check. All three are "worth knowing" notices — none of them changes a score.

AI spending limit

Reading an ingredient label from a photo uses an AI vision model, which costs a small amount per photo. A spending cap is switched on for the beta: when it is reached, label-photo reading stops with a clear message until the limit is raised.

Everything else keeps working when that happens — barcode scanning, product search, manual entry, history and saved products. Label photos are used for one reading and are not stored by Clove; see the privacy page for details.

Label-photo limits

To keep the AI feature from being overwhelmed, label-photo reading is limited to 6 photos per minute and 120 photos per day.

  • Limits are counted per internet address, not per person — people on the same office or home Wi-Fi share the same allowance.
  • The daily counter resets whenever Clove is republished, so treat these limits as a brake, not a guarantee. If a photo is refused, wait a minute and try again.
  • Barcode scanning, search and manual entry are not affected by these limits.

Feedback

If a score, note or source link looks wrong, say which product you checked — every result names the ingredients it matched and the source behind each note.

Clove's scores and ingredient notes are general information, not medical advice.
